Pick-up at your hotel. Departing from Porto, we travel south along the coast toward Aveiro. This coastal city is currently home to one of the most dynamic and innovative Portuguese universities, while remaining faithful to its maritime roots. Composed of beautiful canals and its traditional moliceiros (small boats with high curved bows, formerly used for collecting seaweed and resembling gondolas), the city is also known as the “Little Venice of Portugal”.
Take the opportunity to stroll through its historic streets and taste the delicious ovos-moles, the typical convent sweet of Aveiro. Afterwards, we continue towards Coimbra. During the journey, we can observe the fishermen’s houses painted with vibrant coloured stripes and the golden beach of Costa Nova.
In the afternoon, we set out to discover the historic city of Coimbra, once the capital of Portugal and the birthplace of six Portuguese kings. In Coimbra, known as the “City of Students”, we can visit the University of Coimbra, one of the oldest universities in Europe and classified as a World Heritage Site, as well as the Joanina Library, one of the most remarkable and spectacular Baroque libraries in Europe. In the city centre, you will also have the opportunity to admire the famous ceramics of Coimbra.
