On this fantastic full-day itinerary, we will discover the main tourist attractions of Lisbon, the capital of Portugal and once the capital of the Portuguese Empire.
We begin in the charming district of Baixa Pombalina, rebuilt under the guidance of the Marquis of Pombal following the 1755 earthquake. Here, we will admire the monumental Praça do Comércio, located along the Tagus River, as well as Rossio, Cais do Sodré and Chiado.
We then continue to Alfama, one of the most traditional neighbourhoods of the capital, where Fado music echoes through its narrow streets and alleys.
Our tour proceeds through the bohemian Bairro Alto and the modern Parque das Nações, ending in the emblematic district of Belém, home to monuments that celebrate Portugal’s Age of Discoveries, including the Jerónimos Monastery, a magnificent example of Manueline architecture, and the Belém Tower, symbolically built at the former departure point of ships and caravels that set sail to explore the oceans.
At the end of the tour, you may wish to taste the famous Pastel de Belém (optional), one of the most popular specialties of Portuguese pastry tradition.
