Portugal: a Safe Country to Travel With Kids

February 06, 2018

Today’s best family trips are a thrill rides of adventure, immersive cultural exchanges and important local experiences. And… guess what? Portugal will be a great choice to travel with children this year!

Considered as one of the most peaceful countries in the world, Portugal is unquestionably a safe country to visit with your little ones. Full of different activities, great hotels and restaurants, Portugal is perfect for a family city break and your children will surely thank you for that.

Where To Go

Honestly you can visit any city you want, because they’re all special and it all depends on what you’re looking for.

So, if you’re more like a beach person, Algarve and Ericeira would be two great options, since you can enjoy the beach life at its best. At the end of the day, and during summer, enjoy a sunbath on an esplanade with a beer and a plate of cooked shrimps. Life will taste even better.

Is the city your thing? Lisbon, Porto and Coimbra are going to be very pleasant getaways for you and your kids. These cities are culturally rich, and they have different kinds of entertainment for all ages.

And if you prefer the countryside, we have places from heaven, such as Douro Valley, Alentejo Region and Ponte de Lima. These places are becoming famous in Portugal due to its offer and gastronomy – the wine and the dishes are divine and so comforting. In these places, Nature is a sacred thing.

What To Do

Ok, here’s a fact: kids love to try everything, right? So take these notes very seriously and let your toddlers enjoy.

Tuk-tuks are extremely fun and they’re a nice way for the whole family to visit the cities of Lisbon, Sintra and Porto.

Óbidos is a village in Leiria that has a stunning castle in the middle so why don’t you take your children there and have them walk the walls of the castle. They will feel like kings and princesses.

In the centre of Portugal, in Luso, there’s a place you would like to go if you and your kids are Nature and History lovers: Mata Nacional do Buçaco. Take a walk in the forest and don’t forget to take a comforting picnic to make this moment unforgettable.

Pena Palace, in Sintra, is a real and picturesque palace where, once again, your kids will feel they kind of belong to a kingdom where they can be queens and kings for a day.

If you’re looking for something more radical, BioParque, in Viseu is so cool for the family and you can even camp there or stay at a bungalow. Luso Aventura, in Figueira da Foz, or Sky Garden Adventure Park, in Coimbra, are similar parks where challenges are guaranteed.  How awesome it this?

In Aveiro there’s an industrial building - Life Science Factory - which is for those who love Science and like to touch, test, and try everything.

Côa Museum, in Vila Nova de Foz Côa, witnesses the oldest memory of mankind. One of the most important archaeological sites in the world, the Côa Museum has a collection of ‘drawings’ since the Paleolithic era. An interesting History lesson for the kids, right?

Where To Stay

So you’ve decided to bring the family with you but you haven’t decided on where to stay? No worries. Portugal is ready to receive you all with the nicest child-friendly hotels promising you a worriless and relaxing stay. These hotels are also great for romantic getaways in Portugal.

Martinhal Sagres Beach Family Resort Hotel, in Algarve, is a fine and luxurious hotel for families, where both Nature and beach live together in harmony. In here, you can relax while a dedicated team takes cares of your children.

Blue & Green Vilalara Thalassa Resort, also in Algarve, is situated in a very special place. Built on the top of a cliff, this hotel has so many things to do, such as Spas, clubs for kids, open-air theatre, and many others.
